In this post, I white a non-spoiler my review of the 2019 comedy–horror movie Ready or Not.
🎬 Ready or Not – 2019
To briefly describe the plot of Ready or Not, the movie takes place on the wedding day and night of Grace and Alex. Alex’s family owns a large family business selling card games, and compared to Grace, the family is very rich. But for their wealth, they have made a kind of bargain with the devil.
Each time a new member joins the family, they play a game. The new member of the family randomly chooses the game from a box. There are various games, the most dangerous of which is hide and seek. This is a kind of manhunt. The player must hide in the house within 100 seconds; the others will try to find him, or rather hunt him down, and when they find him they will start a ritual in which they will sacrifice him. In the meantime, the family is obliged to hunt him down, because if they don’t do it by sunrise, the pact is broken and the whole family perishes.
Grace has not been told about the game before, a necessity she learns with great shock when she accidentally shoots the housekeeper in the head by the family’s cocaine-addicted daughter-in-law. Now she must escape, survive and, if possible, get out of this house.
It’s set in a mansion full of manhunt, traps and passageways; there’s The Boys-style over-the-top horror and absurdist comedy; it’s not particularly funny or scary; but despite all clichés, Ready or Not manages to keep the eyes on it in a strange way. Because the movie knows what it is and what it’s doing, it doesn’t drag it out unnecessarily.
I think that in movies like this, unless the acting is terrible, people don’t take the performances of the actors into consideration. Nevertheless, Samara Weaving, the lead of the movie, gives a performance that can be congratulated.
Personally, I think it is safe to say that you will not lose anything by not watching this movie, which some people praise to the point of exaggeration, but if you do watch it, you will spend a good 1 hour and 35 minutes; perhaps a few words can be insisted upon.
My rating for Ready or Not is 6.8/10.
